2016 National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

ntdawSeptember 11-17, 2016

On a small scale, the 3.4 million truck drivers of America impact your life on a daily basis. From the delivery of the very food on your plate, the medications in your pharmacies, and the gasoline in your car, virtually all of the items we need would not be readily available without our truckers. On a larger scale, they are the backbone to every national crisis, delivering donations and supplies during national disaster like the recent flood that devastated Louisiana.  Keeping in mind, a day in the life of a trucker is not an easy one. Most truck drivers work 14 hour days with only 90 minutes of personal time and are constantly up against the clock. Time management is one of the most difficult aspects of the trucking industry and that responsibility falls directly on the driver. On average, drivers lose two hours of driving time a day battling parking issues, fatigue and planning uncertainty. Yet they continue on, guaranteeing the delivery of goods that keeps the United States running. We have great dependence on the trucking system working smoothly and our appreciation of those who get that job done should be equally as large.

Thankfully, we have an entire week to show our appreciation for the truck drivers of America. From September 11 – 17, 2016, join ALK in acknowledging the men and women who brave harsh weather and sacrifice time away from their loved ones to guarantee the delivery of goods and keep our highways safe.

Here at ALK, we would like to #ThankADriver – Not just for the work you’ve done, but for everything you have done and will continue to do.

ALK Technologies Celebrates a Milestone with the 30th Release of PC*MILER

Provides innovative weather visualization tool for improved route planning efficiency and enhanced fleet safety

Princeton, N.J. – June 28, 2016 – ALK Technologies, a Trimble Company and global leader in GeoLogistics® solutions and navigation software, today announced that the 30th version of its PC*MILER truck routing, mileage and mapping software is now available. PC*MILER 30 brings a number of pre-trip planning enhancements, including a unique weather visualization tool to enable transportation companies to understand the weather’s direct impact on their business.

“Our goal is to continue to develop technology that empowers our customers to make confident, informed decisions to boost their bottom line and help ensure fleet safety while on the road,” said Kara Jo O’Neil, senior product manager at ALK Technologies. “With access to critical insight into weather conditions during route planning, dispatchers can make knowledgeable decisions to steer drivers on safer routes, if necessary, as well as understand the possible delays due to severe weather conditions.”

In PC*MILER 30, dispatchers can toggle the display of weather radar and alerts as well as visual cloud layer. Current weather-related events are clearly identified on the map and alerts are optionally provided if the generated route plan intersects with an alert zone. Dispatchers can then analyze the alert type, effective and expiration times, certainty, severity and urgency ratings in order to make critical decisions about routing drivers around hazardous areas or notifying customers of potential delays.

PC*MILER 30 also brings the ability to:

  • Set a maximum governor road speed for more accurate ETAs and drive times
  • Factor in new government mandated 60/70-hour-duty limits for Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and to maintain low CSA scores
  • Insert an HOS compliant stop or break location directly into the route with predefined, custom places for quick pre-planning
  • Access the latest street-level maps of North America with updated addresses, roadways, and commercial restrictions
  • Send an optimized stop list from PC*MILER Interactive directly to a driver through ALK’s standalone CoPilot Truck in-cab navigation app, helping to ensure legally compliant executed truck routes that eliminate manual address entry and maximize driver miles per day

“We’re proud that a product created 30 years ago continues to evolve with the industry’s needs while still maintaining its original intention of providing transportation companies a trusted source for reliable and accurate truck routing, mileage and mapping, “said Michael Kornhauser, executive vice president and general manager at ALK Technologies. “PC*MILER’s longevity is a true testament to the importance of building software with a strong foundation and a focus on innovation driven by the voice of our customers.”

PC*MILER runs on Microsoft Windows, UNIX and Linux platforms as well as IBM AS/400 (iSeries) and mainframe computers. PC*MILER is also available as a web-based application for access anywhere, anytime. It can also be seamlessly integrated with leading transportation and supply chain management systems.

ALK’s Second Annual Field Day

IMG_20160620_134811537-ANIMATION

In honor of the first official day of summer ALK Technologies employees had some fun in the sun at our 2nd Annual Field Day! From trivia to relay races, there was a little something for everyone.
IMG_7578
ALKers arrived to the Princeton Country Club Park to find ALK’s very own executive vice president and general manager, Michael Kornhauser manning the grill. Along with CoPilot project manager, Bill Kott, our grillmasters covered everything from hot-dogs to mac’N’cheese with Michael supplying his very-own extra spicy chicken kebabs (that left many running for the water-bottles).

IMG_7712The day continued with a balloon water toss, corn-hole and wiffle ball tournaments, a relay race, trivia and an iced tea ice-cube tray relay, each filled with laughter and excitement. Caroline Connell, marketing specialist, noted how she enjoyed the opportunity these activities gave to bond with everyone from different departments. “It’s not everyday that I get a chance to see or spend quality time with my colleagues. Watching them attempt to hop around in a potato-sack was truly priceless!”

This day also marked a special occasion for our vice president of sales, Bill Maddox, who was presented with a plaque of gratitude after 20 years of service with ALK. With many mentions of Bill’s career path beginning as a chicken-wing delivery man, it was truly a heart-felt moment to acknowledge Bill’s many accomplishments. Bill’s has spent his two decades at ALK establishing and growing PC*MILER into the industry standard routing, mileage, and mapping software it is known for today. Thank you, Bill!

Finally, and arguably most importantly, a big thank you to Tina Loftus and Marc Stewart. Without the two of you many spectacular events like Field Day would not exist. All your time and effort is greatly appreciated throughout all of ALK!

ALK Technologies Launches CoPilot Truck GPS Android App

Provides industry standard commercial vehicle route planning & offline navigation for truckers

Louisville, Kentucky – April 1, 2016 – ALK Technologies, a Trimble Company and global leader in GeoLogistics® solutions and navigation software, announced today the launch of its CoPilot® Truck™ GPS mobile navigation app. The app is available as a free download for 14 days on the Google Play Store for Android-based smartphones and tablets.

“We’re pleased to provide a cost effective solution that can help independents and small fleet owner operators stay safe and compliant on the road,” said Bill Nimchuk, senior product manager, ALK Technologies. “CoPilot Truck GPS enables drivers to avoid unnecessary expenses such as fines and the resultant hit to their CSA score which can have a negative effect on their overall business and income.”

CoPilot Truck GPS includes a 14 day trial of:

Industry Standard PC*MILER Routing

CoPilot Truck GPS is the only app that uses industry standard PC*MILER routing to calculate an optimal route based on vehicle size/class and the load, including Hazmat, to ensure drivers stay safe and compliant to regulations above all else.

Route Planning

Plan or modify routes with CoPilot Truck GPS’s trip optimization feature, which optimizes up to 50 stops to find the best order. Plus, the app comes with millions of offline Points of Interest (POIs) including truck services, rest areas and diesel fuel stations.

Offline Maps

With CoPilot Truck GPS’s high-quality offline maps, no mobile internet is needed.  The maps are stored directly on the phone or tablet.  Drivers don’t have to worry about incurring high data costs or losing guidance in spotty coverage, two concerns that typically arise with online navigation apps.

Other features included:

  • Unique directions-only guidance view and Motion Lock to minimize driver distraction in the cab
  • Ability to drag any route to fully customize the exact trip itinerary needed
  • Advanced lane guidance with real road signage to safely maneuver lane changes well in advance
  • Real-time ActiveTraffic™ service, to stay up-to-date with live traffic alerts
  • Posted speed limit display plus audio and visual alerts notifying the driver when they’ve exceeded the limit, keeping their CSA score in good standing

CoPilot Truck GPS is being showcased in Booth #66140 at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky.  To celebrate MATS, the in-app purchase of an annual subscription is being offered for $69.99 (30% off) for a limited time.  You can also get the recently introduced in-app purchase of a 30 day subscription for $9.99. The app is available to download from Google Play.
