ALK Releases PC*MILER|Rail 17
Includes Directional Routing Over One-Way Rail Lines
Princeton, New Jersey — September 30, 2010 - ALK Technologies, Inc., today announced the release of PC*MILER|Rail 17, the latest version of the transportation and logistics industry's leading rail routing, mileage and mapping software solution.
The recently updated PC*MILER|Rail 17 includes a number of feature enhancements such as directional routing for accurate mileage over one-way rail lines; the ability to view mileage split amongst participating carriers for interline routes in the batch processing module; and new function calls for the programming interface. Additionally, the rail network data in PC*MILER|Rail 17 contains seventeen new railroads; hundreds of new freight stations and junction interchanges; and revised rail systems incorporating recent track abandonments and changes in track ownership.
PC*MILER|Rail is used by most large rail shippers, railcar lessors and all Class I railroads for transportation management. Key benefits include fuel surcharge calculation, car hire, equipment management, rail car mileage auditing, rate determination and negotiation, carrier selection, and ad valorem tax reporting. "Collectively our USRail.desktop clients manage over $10 billion in rail freight,:" said Ike Roberts, Vice President Production - Freight Resources Network. "Without the accurate rail mileage that PC*MILER|Rail provides, USRail.desktop couldn't answer the number one question on our clients' minds: "What should my rate be?"
ALK offers customers several licensing options and value-added solutions to access PC*MILER|Rail routing, mileage and mapping functionality. The standard Windows-based interactive single or multi-user installation allows users to manually run and analyze routes, while PC*MILER|Rail-BatchPro quickly processes large volumes of origin-destination pairs. PC*MILER|Rail-Connect integrates with custom or third-party applications and includes Microsoft Excel Add Ins to compute routes via spreadsheet formulas. A TCP/IP add-on is available for interfacing with other platforms including UNIX, IBM iSeries, and CICS Mainframe. PC*MILER|Rail map data files can be licensed to use with ALK's routing network model or other GIS software.
